Mojtaba Khamenei appoints six new senior military commanders

Mojtaba Khamenei has issued urgent decrees appointing six new senior military commanders to restructure Iran’s defense and security apparatus. These appointments follow significant leadership losses during recent military conflicts with the United States and Israel, including the deaths of high-ranking officials such as Mohammad Pakpour and Alireza Tangsiri.

Key appointments include Ahmed Vahidi as Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) with the rank of Major General, and Mostafa Izadi as his deputy. Ali Abdollahi has been named Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, with Kiumars Heydari as his deputy. Additionally, Ali Azmaei has been appointed Commander of the IRGC Navy, and Hossein Taeb, a known figure in domestic suppression, has been named Commander of the Basij Organization.

Analysts suggest these rapid changes aim to fill command vacuums, prevent internal fragmentation, and mitigate potential domestic unrest amid economic crises.
