Mojtaba Khamenei remains absent from public view amid leadership speculation

Six months after airstrikes propelled Mojtaba Khamenei into the role of Iran's Supreme Leader, he remains absent from public view, fueling intense speculation regarding his health and survival. Following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, in February strikes, Mojtaba has not appeared in any photograph, video, or audio recording, nor has he addressed the nation directly.

While Iranian officials and President Masoud Pezeshkian maintain that Khamenei remains in control and holds regular meetings with top figures, his absence has created a perceived leadership vacuum. Some officials suggest he is ruling from the shadows to ensure security while recovering from disfiguring wounds sustained during the conflict. However, reports from sources close to the regime have speculated that the 56-year-old leader may have died from injuries sustained in the February strikes.

The lack of visibility is causing growing skepticism among the Iranian public and even within hardline circles, such as the Basij militia, who have expressed a need to see or hear their leader to maintain confidence in the government.
