Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, has remained absent from public view for six months following his appointment. His elevation to the role occurred after airstrikes resulted in the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Despite his prolonged absence from video, photography, or audio recordings, Iranian officials maintain that Khamenei remains in control. They suggest he is governing from the shadows due to security concerns and the need to recover from disfiguring injuries sustained during the conflict. President Masoud Pezeshkian reported having a seven-hour meeting with him on August 10.

However, the lack of public visibility has fueled speculation regarding his health and the functionality of Iran's leadership. In a recent written message, Khamenei urged government officials to avoid publicly highlighting the country's economic and social weaknesses, arguing that such transparency could aid adversaries.
