MOL Group completes reconstruction of Danube Refinery AV3 unit
MOL Group has completed reconstruction work on the AV3 crude oil distillation unit at the Danube Refinery in Százhalombatta, Hungary. The unit was severely damaged by a fire in October 2025.
The restoration project, costing 18 billion forints, involved demolishing and rebuilding the reinforced concrete structure, restoring control and electrical systems, installing 27 high-capacity pumps, replacing eight kilometers of piping, and laying 100 kilometers of electrical cables. The project was completed according to the original schedule.
The next phase involves preparing the unit for a safe restart through system flushing, pressure testing, and functional testing of safety and process control equipment. Production is expected to resume gradually in October. Once fully operational, the refinery will return to full capacity, which is expected to strengthen fuel supply security for Hungary and the surrounding region.
