MOL Group reclaims 43 million shares and liquid assets
MOL Group has regained direct ownership of approximately 43 million of its own Class A shares and significant liquid assets following the dissolution of the MOL Nova Evropa Foundation. This restructuring follows an agreement with the Hungarian government after legislative changes required the termination of certain public interest foundations.
The transferred assets include cash, corporate bonds, and government bonds valued at approximately 110 million to 129 million USD, along with material assets. In exchange for the transfer, MOL has committed to allocating roughly 27.6 million to 32 million USD over the next three years toward programs in education, sports, pediatric healthcare, sustainability, and cultural heritage.
This consolidation strengthens MOL's financial position and provides greater flexibility for corporate financing. The move is particularly notable as the company is currently negotiating the potential acquisition of the Russian stake in Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). While the returned assets may not be sufficient to purchase a majority stake in NIS on their own, the increased shareholdings and liquidity enhance the company's overall capacity for large-scale acquisitions.
