MOL inaugurates solar park and battery storage in Algyő
MOL has inaugurated a new solar park and battery energy storage system at its Algyő site in Hungary. The solar park has a capacity of 37.4 MWp, while the associated battery storage system provides 20 MW of nominal power and 40 MWh of storage capacity.
The total investment for the project is approximately 21.5 billion HUF. The solar park cost 17.6 billion HUF, supported by 5.566 billion HUF in non-refundable subsidies from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The battery storage system cost 3.975 billion HUF, which included 1.628 billion HUF in EU funding through the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
According to György Bacsa, Managing Director of MOL Hungary, the project aims to increase the energy independence of the Algyő facilities and improve electricity supply flexibility. The solar plant's annual production is equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 22,500 households in Csongrád-Csanád county. The development is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 13,000 tons annually, helping the site avoid falling under the scope of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).
