Molapo Bridge in Soweto nears completion

The Molapo Bridge project in Soweto is nearing completion, serving as a key component of the Jabulani Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). The bridge is designed to span the railway line that has historically separated the Molapo and Jabulani areas, providing a more direct and efficient route for both motorists and pedestrians.

Major construction is substantially complete, and work has transitioned to final close-out activities. These include the completion of the parapet wall, finalization of walkways and road crossings, road marking, and the installation of street lighting.

Themba Mathibe, Chief Executive Officer of the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), stated that the bridge demonstrates the impact of strategic infrastructure investment in connecting people and places. The project aims to support the development of Jabulani as an economic and social node while contributing to the City of Johannesburg’s goal of creating connected, accessible, and people-centred neighbourhoods.
