Molay Abdallah Amghar Festival Opens with Quran Recitation in Morocco

The Molay Abdallah Amghar festival, one of Morocco’s most prominent religious and cultural events, began on Friday, 7 August 2026 and will run through 14 August. The opening ceremony featured the historic “Salkah” – a collective recitation of the Qur’an – held inside the shrine’s mosque for the first time, highlighting the spiritual dimension of the celebration.

The festival is organized by the Molay Abdallah community in partnership with the regional council of Dakhla‑El Jadida and local authorities. Officials attending included regional council president Mohamed Zahidi, regional delegate Mohamed Amhidia, and other civil‑military representatives. The programme combines traditional “tbourida” horse‑riding displays, falconry, musical performances, cultural exhibitions and workshops, aiming to boost internal tourism and reinforce Morocco’s intangible heritage.
