Molde Airport faces major flight cuts by Widerøe and Norwegian

Molde Airport, Årø, is facing significant service reductions as major airlines announce cuts to their flight schedules starting this autumn. Widerøe will reduce its daily weekday service between Molde and Bergen from four round trips to two, including the removal of a critical morning flight. Additionally, Widerøe is eliminating its Saturday service to Bergen entirely.

Norwegian is also reducing its route frequency between Molde and Oslo by approximately 30%, cutting one round trip on weekdays and reducing Sunday services. While the weekday morning flight to Oslo remains, passenger numbers at the airport have seen a sharp decline.

The decline follows SAS's departure from the airport, leading many business travelers to utilize nearby airports like Kvernberget or Vigra to access SkyTeam alliances. Concerns have been raised regarding the effectiveness of Molde Lufthavnutvikling in strengthening regional connections and securing the airport's long-term viability.
