Moldelectrica and Romania's Interior Ministry warn citizens of new fraud schemes
Moldelectrica announced that fraudsters are contacting individuals in Moldova by phone, SMS, messaging apps, social media and email while falsely claiming to be company representatives. The scams aim to obtain personal data, banking details, OTP codes or photographs of identity documents. The utility emphasized that it never requests such information through these channels and urged people to use only official communication channels.
The Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a similar alert, noting that criminals have created a copy of the Digi24 news website and used the image of businessman Ion Țiriac to lend credibility to a bogus investment platform. Victims are directed to transfer money to accounts controlled by the scammers. Authorities advised the public to avoid unknown links, never share personal or banking data on such sites, and verify URLs carefully.
