Moldova 1 highlights historical milestones in independence campaign

As part of the ‘35 Years of Independence’ editorial campaign, Moldova 1 is highlighting key historical milestones for the Republic of Moldova.

The year 2005 is noted for significant political shifts, including the reconfirmation of Communist Party rule following parliamentary elections on March 6, where the party secured 56 mandates. Vladimir Voronin was re-elected as president with support from parts of the parliamentary opposition.

This period also marked a deepening of relations with the European Union, highlighted by the signing of the Moldova-EU Action Plan on February 22 and the commencement of the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) in October. Additionally, negotiations regarding the Transnistrian conflict transitioned to the 5+2 format, incorporating the European Union and the United States as observers.
