Moldova addresses labor shortages and workplace safety
Authorities and employers in Moldova are addressing critical labor market challenges through specialized training and national conferences. In Chișinău, a national conference titled “How do we solve the labor shortage in the Republic of Moldova?” brought together state institutions and business experts to discuss the acute lack of personnel. Data from the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) indicates 34,691 job vacancies were recorded in the first eight months of 2026, with significant openings in Chișinău, Bălți, Strășeni, and UTA Găgăuzia.
To mitigate these shortages, ANOFM is offering subsidies for hiring unemployed individuals, covering up to 80% of salaries, alongside professional training and mobility support. Discussions also covered the legal requirements for hiring foreign citizens and taxation rules.
In a separate initiative, the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova (CNSM) organized an occupational health and safety seminar in Sîngerei. The training aimed to clarify the legal responsibilities of employers and ensure safe working conditions, focusing on accident prevention and the legal framework for workplace safety.
