Moldova addresses water crisis and launches emergency preparedness program
Moldovan authorities are addressing dual challenges regarding national resilience and resource scarcity. Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder has warned that the current hydrological crisis is a regional issue, suggesting that water shortages may persist for an extended period. He emphasized the need for long-term infrastructure adaptation, noting that while water levels in the Nistru River may eventually recover, authorities must prepare for prolonged scarcity.
In a separate move to bolster national resilience, the National Crisis Management Center (CNMC) announced the ‘Moldova Prepared’ program. Scheduled for launch in November 2026, the initiative aims to provide citizens with a 72-hour survival guide to manage the immediate aftermath of major crises, such as cyberattacks, power outages, or infrastructure failures. Serghei Diaconu, Director General of the CNMC, stated that training households to manage the first three days of a disruption allows emergency services to focus resources on the most urgent needs.
