Moldova adopts national regulation to map and cut environmental noise

On 24 June the Moldovan government approved a regulation that creates a national framework for monitoring and managing environmental noise generated by road traffic, railways, airports and large‑scale industry. The authorities will produce strategic acoustic maps that pinpoint areas where noise levels exceed legal limits, focusing on residential neighborhoods, parks, schools, kindergartens and hospitals.

Operators responsible for the identified sources must develop and implement action plans that may include technical noise‑reduction measures, traffic re‑organisation, stricter urban‑planning controls and protection of quiet zones. The regulation aims to improve quality of life and safeguard public health by targeting high‑traffic roads with over three million vehicle passages per year and other major noise emitters.
