Moldova advances transition toward circular economy
Moldova is making progress in transitioning from a linear economic model to a circular one, aligning its environmental standards with European Union requirements. Key initiatives include the introduction of ecological education in over 300 schools and the preparation of a new Deposit Return System for packaging, which is scheduled for launch in 2027.
To support this transition, the government is providing financial and technical assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises through the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA) and the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA). These funds target green investments in agriculture, sustainable water management, renewable energy, and climate change adaptation.
Additional legislative and educational efforts include the mapping of industrial waste, the approval of a taxonomy for sustainable financing, and the updating of environmental protection laws. Furthermore, university curricula are being modernized through projects like Erasmus+ to include sustainable practices in industries such as textiles.
