Moldova aligns with European Prüm II police data mechanism

The Government of Moldova has approved a draft law on international police cooperation to align the national framework with the European Prüm II mechanism. This alignment is designed to facilitate the rapid verification of information regarding wanted persons and goods, aiding in the identification of individuals involved in cross-border crimes.

The mechanism enables the automated exchange of various data types, including DNA, fingerprints, vehicle information, facial images, police records, and data related to major cross-border events. It also covers information for preventing terrorism, identifying missing persons, and tracking stolen or lost travel documents.

The draft law establishes a Single Point of Contact for international police cooperation within the General Inspectorate of Police and defines the responsibilities of the involved authorities. To ensure security, the document includes clear rules regarding personal data protection, access traceability, and the security of information exchange.
