Severe traffic congestion clogs major Romanian highways
During the first weekend of August, Romanian police’s INFOTRAFIC centre reported unusually high traffic volumes on the main routes to the seaside and mountain resorts. Long queues formed on DN 1 between Ploiești and Brașov, especially near Nistorești, Comarnic, Sinaia and Bușteni, and on DN 7 between Râmnicu Vâlcea and Sibiu (Călimănești, Brezoi). The A2 highway (Bucharest‑Constanța) remained busy between Fetești and Cernavodă, while DN 39 to Vama Veche also saw heavy congestion.
Police advised drivers to adjust speed to conditions, keep safe distances and consider alternative routes. Traffic flowed normally on the A1 (Bucharest‑Pitești), A3 (Bucharest‑Ploiești) and A7 (Ploiești‑Adjud) corridors.
