Moldova and Netherlands discuss financial integration and EU alignment

Moldovan officials held high-level discussions regarding the European integration of the nation's financial sector. National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Governor Anca Dragu met with the Dutch Ambassador to Moldova, Esselien van Eerten, and Alida van Haasteren from the Dutch Ministry of Finance to discuss aligning the financial sector with European standards.

Key topics included prudential supervision, digital finance, and sustainable finance. A significant milestone noted was Moldova's operational participation in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) since October 2025, which has reportedly saved citizens and businesses 13.2 million euros in transaction costs. The BNM is also seeking recognition from the European Banking Authority regarding the equivalence of Moldova's banking prudential framework with that of the EU.

In a separate diplomatic engagement, Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan held discussions with his Dutch counterpart, Rob Jetten. Additionally, Governor Dragu engaged with students from the Moldova State University as part of the ‘School of Modern Finance’ program, an educational initiative supported by the National Bank of Romania and the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.
