Moldova reaffirms neutrality and EU focus amid regional security concerns

Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has reaffirmed that the country intends to maintain its constitutional neutrality and has no plans to join NATO. Speaking in New York, Tofan emphasized that Moldova's primary external priority remains integration into the European Union, noting that the nation is among the top candidate countries making significant progress in the accession process.

Despite the commitment to neutrality, Tofan noted that Moldova faces ongoing hybrid threats and a surge in drone activity. The Ministry of Defense reported 44 airspace violations involving Russian or Iranian drones and missiles so far this year. Additionally, the government has declared a 60-day national state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors to manage supply risks.

In broader diplomatic developments, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the United States has proposed a technical-level trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S., with the United Arab Emirates suggested as a potential venue. This proposal follows discussions between Zelensky and Donald Trump regarding ways to end the conflict.
