Moldova approves land expropriation for Giurgiulești Port expansion
The Moldovan government has approved the expropriation of a 6,000-square-meter private land plot near the village of Giurgiulești to facilitate the expansion of the Giurgiulești International Free Port. This specific plot had previously been omitted from the original expansion project lists initiated in the 2000s.
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan noted that while the delay in the expropriation process might result in higher costs for the state, the procedure is necessary to consolidate the land designated for the port's development. The expansion follows the takeover of the port's operator by the Romanian Port of Constanța. The Public Property Agency will manage the land evaluation and subsequent compensation process, which will be funded by the state budget.
