Moldova approves national railway infrastructure program for 2026–2030
The Moldovan government has approved a national railway infrastructure program for the years 2026–2030, aimed at modernizing the rail network and expanding passenger services. For 2026, the government has allocated 300 million lei, with over 288 million lei dedicated to the maintenance, repair, and development of infrastructure.
Key developments include the planned launch of new passenger routes, such as Strășeni–Chișinău–Sângera and Bender–Chișinău–Bender, following the installation of electronic passenger tracking systems. The program also prioritizes improving connections to the Eugen Doga Chișinău International Airport by equipping Revaca station for passenger transfers and developing links between the airport and the North Bus Station in Chișinău.
Infrastructure works will focus on several critical sectors, including the continuation of repairs on the Cahul–Giurgiulești section and the Iargara–Cahul sector. Additionally, work on the Prut-2–Fălciu segment, which provides the railway connection to Romania, is slated for completion. These investments are intended to increase train speeds and eliminate current traffic restrictions.
