Moldova automobile imports generate 1.41 billion lei in excise revenue

In 2025, Moldovans imported 29,488 automobiles, generating over 1.41 billion lei in excise revenue for the state budget. According to data from the Customs Service, the majority of these imports—approximately 20,800 vehicles—featured internal combustion engines, while 7,514 were hybrids and 1,183 were electric vehicles.

Notable imports included a luxury vehicle from Germany valued at over 10 million lei, which incurred a customs tax of 1.4 million lei, and a 1968 model from the United States with a declared value of 3 million lei. The most frequently imported brands included Ford, BMW, Renault, Dacia, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Skoda, Audi, Volvo, and Honda.
