Moldova aviation expert warns of political interference and ICAO blacklist risk
Aviation expert Alexei Rogov, former director of Moldaeroservice and ICAO observer, has warned that political interference in Moldova’s civil aviation sector poses a systemic risk to flight safety and industry development.
Rogov asserts that the appointment of unqualified personnel to key regulatory and inspection roles has compromised technical standards. He specifically highlighted the airline FlyOne, suggesting that political motives may be driving attempts to shut down certain carriers, similar to the previous closure of Air Moldova.
Failure to adhere to EASA and ICAO regulations could result in Moldova being placed on international blacklists. Such a move would likely prohibit Moldovan airlines from operating within European airspace and stall national aeronautical infrastructure development. Rogov has called for the depoliticization of the Civil Aviation Authority and the convening of a national aviation council to include industry professionals in decision-making.
