Moldova awards 170 MW wind farm auction with bids 13% below price cap

The Moldovan Commission for the renewable‑energy auction opened financial offers on 30 July for the second tender covering up to 170 MW of wind capacity plus a minimum of 44 MWh of battery storage. Seven offers submitted by four investors were classified out of 16 bids from nine investors, proposing a total of 179 MW of wind turbines and 162.5 MWh of storage.

The weighted average price of the classified offers is 1.2467 lei/kWh (about €62.04/MWh), roughly 13 % lower than the ANRE ceiling of 1.44 lei/kWh and also below the average price of the 2025 auction. The commission will now determine the marginal offer to keep the awarded capacity within the 170 MW limit, after which the winning investors will receive large‑eligible producer status and a 15‑year guaranteed purchase agreement for the electricity they generate. The results are presented as evidence of strong investor interest and are intended to boost Moldova’s renewable‑energy capacity, improve energy security and reduce reliance on imports.
