Moldova begins €37 million overhaul of Salcia Mare bridge in Cahul

The Salcia Mare bridge on national road R32 (Vulcănești‑Cahul‑Taraclia) near Trifeștii Noi in Cahul district will undergo a capital‑repair project for the first time since its construction in 1972‑73. The contract, signed with the National Roads Administration, is valued at 36.77 million lei (about €37 million) and is funded from the Road Fund.

Works, scheduled to last up to 15 months, include dismantling the existing superstructure, reinforcing pile foundations, installing new reinforced‑concrete rigls, repairing girders, and rebuilding the access road (82.85 m). A temporary bypass of 765.7 m will keep traffic flowing, and a provisional footbridge will maintain river drainage. After completion, the bridge will be 67.15 m long and 11.80 m wide, with a 9‑m carriageway, four openings and two side sidewalks protected by safety parapets.
