Moldova blocks over 1 million fraud calls and records 1.5 million lei loss in June

Moldovan telecom operators report that more than one million fraudulent telephone calls were intercepted and blocked during the first three months of 2026, with authorities noting a rise in attempts and increasingly sophisticated methods, including the use of artificial‑intelligence voice‑cloning.

In the 24 hours ending 9 June, police recorded 13 new scam cases that cost victims more than 1.5 million lei. The incidents spanned Chișinău, Briceni, Bender, Cahul, Glodeni and Sângerei, while 322 suspected fraud attempts were prevented thanks to public vigilance. Law‑enforcement officials warned that scammers impersonate bank or state‑institution employees to obtain money, banking data or personal information, and urged citizens to verify any such contacts directly with the relevant institutions and to report suspicious calls.
