Moldova cadastral revaluation may keep Chișinău property tax steady
Ivan Danii, director of the Agency of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre, said a nationwide revaluation has increased the cadastral value of apartments in Moldova by an average of 2.9 times, covering about 6.5 million properties. The agency completed the exercise and will notify owners of the new values in September, with the revised figures to take effect on 1 January 2027 after all procedures and appeals are resolved.
Danii stressed that the higher cadastral values do not automatically raise property‑tax rates; the decision rests with local authorities. In Chișinău, to keep the tax burden unchanged despite the higher valuations, the municipal tax rate would need to be adjusted to 0.08 % (the current rate is 0.185 %). The legal minimum rate is 0.05 %. Over 7,400 appeals have been filed, mainly concerning technical characteristics and the assigned cadastral values.
