Moldova claims Transnistria blocks 1+1 negotiations and misrepresents Convergence Fund

Vice‑premier for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri accused the Transnistrian authorities in Tiraspol of obstructing the renewal of direct "1+1" talks between Chișinău and Tiraspol. He said Tiraspol gave evasive or outright negative responses to proposals for a new round, and urged the separatist side to respect its limits. The agenda Chiveri offered includes human‑rights issues, farmers’ concerns, VAT application and the planned Convergence Fund.

At the same time, Tiraspol’s media has framed the Convergence Fund – a mechanism Moldova intends to create to reduce economic differences across the Dniester – as a propaganda tool. The separatist narrative claims the fund would seize Transnistrian money, cripple the regional economy and cause a humanitarian catastrophe, while Moldovan officials describe it as a budget‑backed programme of up to roughly three billion lei to finance infrastructure, education, energy efficiency, business development and social support, financed by taxes on Transnistrian entities, the state budget and external partners such as the EU.
