Moldova commemorates Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici 34 years after death

Moldova is marking the 34th anniversary of the deaths of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, iconic singers of the National Renaissance Movement. The artists died in a car accident in Romania on the night of October 29 to 30, 1992, while traveling from Romania to Chișinău.

President Maia Sandu paid tribute to the couple, describing them as symbols of the struggle for the Romanian language and national identity. She noted that their music continues to unite people around the ideals of freedom and dignity.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has proposed that 2027 be declared the “Year of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici” to honor their cultural contribution. Tofan, who shared a personal connection with the family, emphasized that their voices remain a reminder of the generation that fought for a free Moldova.

Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici, the artists' son, welcomed the initiative. He expressed a desire for 2027 to be a year of active promotion through concerts, film, and theater to bring his parents' music to younger generations, rather than just a period of mourning.
