Moldova coordinates UN support with EU integration goals
Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met with United Nations representatives to discuss development priorities and the efficient allocation of UN support. The meeting focused on aligning UN resources with Moldova’s national project of European Union integration, emphasizing the need for investments that produce concrete results for citizens.
Key priority areas identified for UN assistance include expanding water access, increasing drought resilience, energy security and efficiency, and managing the consequences of the war in Ukraine. Discussions also addressed the integration of refugees into education, healthcare, social protection, and the labor market.
Simultaneously, Moldova faces a complex political landscape regarding its 2030 goal for EU accession. The rise of sovereignist and eurosceptic political movements across several European member states presents a potential challenge to the expansion process. Analysts suggest that for Moldova and Ukraine, the primary risk may not be an outright refusal of membership, but rather a prolonged delay caused by shifting political dynamics within the EU.
