Moldova corn export surge overtakes wheat as barley prices fluctuate

In July 2026, the price of barley in Moldova ranged between 2.9 and 3 lei per kilogram, with an early start to the 2026/27 marketing season and a starting export price of 3.19 lei/kg for the first lot, down from 3.40 lei/kg a year earlier.

June 2026 saw Moldovan cereal exports total 151,492 tonnes worth 620.3 million lei. Corn exports rose to 71,026 tonnes, generating 309.8 million lei (49.95% of export value), overtaking wheat which fell to 79,644 tonnes and 307.6 million lei (49.58%). The average price per tonne was 4,362 lei for corn and 3,862 lei for wheat, making corn the most profitable grain for exporters. Italy and Turkey were major buyers of Moldovan corn, while Italy and Romania absorbed most of the wheat exports.
