Moldova cracks down on fraud rings scamming car buyers and exam candidates

Police from Moldova’s National Investigation Service (INI), together with prosecutors, dismantled an organized group that offered fake sales of automobiles and agricultural machinery. The scheme used online ads with unusually low prices, drew 31 victims who transferred a total of 5.8 million lei, and the suspects were placed in preventive arrest.

The National Anti‑Corruption Center (CNA) is pursuing a separate case involving a professor and accomplices who allegedly accepted bribes of 3,500‑12,000 lei from at least 15 students to secure Certiport international certificates. Those certificates were then used to obtain automatic top marks in the national computer science baccalaureate exam. Investigators have carried out searches and are preparing charges of bribery and related offenses.
