Moldova: Cultural Heritage Institute proposed for absorption by Ion Creangă University
A new legislative proposal in Moldova suggests the reorganization of the Cultural Heritage Institute through its absorption by the Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University. The draft law, registered in Parliament by deputy Virgiliu Pâslariuc, aims to modify several normative acts regulating institutions under the Ministry of Culture.
The initiative seeks to replace references to the Cultural Heritage Institute with the National Center of Traditional Culture. According to the explanatory note, the reorganization is motivated by the fact that the Institute's primary activities involve research, which falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Research. Although the Ministry of Culture acts as the founder, the Institute is funded through the Ministry of Education and Research.
By integrating the Institute into the university, the proposal aims to consolidate the national research and innovation system in the field of cultural heritage and ensure more efficient use of institutional, financial, and administrative resources. For 2026, the initial approved budget for the Cultural Heritage Institute was 11.68 million lei, later increased to 11.89 million lei.
