Moldova denies direct threat to Zelensky’s plane after drone-related flight delay
A flight carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky from Moldova to Norway was delayed following a temporary closure of Moldovan airspace. The disruption occurred as the aircraft prepared to depart Chisinau for Oslo to attend a state funeral.
While Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre suggested the aircraft was nearly struck by a drone, Moldovan government spokesman Dumitru Ciorici clarified that there was no direct threat to the plane, as it remained on the ground throughout the airspace restriction. Authorities reported that a drone entered Moldovan airspace and eventually crashed and exploded approximately 160 kilometers from Chisinau International Airport, causing no casualties.
