Moldova domestic violence report: 55 of 68 severe cases involved victims living with aggressors

A report from the Commission for the Analysis of Femicide and Family Violence cases under the Ministry of Internal Affairs reveals that shared housing is the most frequent site for severe domestic violence in Moldova. In 2025, 55 out of 68 recorded cases of severe violence involved victims living with their aggressors, with 38 incidents occurring within the shared home.

Regarding femicide, five murders occurred in shared residences, five at the victim's separate home, two in public spaces, and one at a relative's home. In five of the femicide cases, the victims lived apart from the aggressors.

Out of the 68 cases of severe violence, 69 criminal cases were initiated, 53 of which have been sent to court. The report notes that violence often occurs in enclosed spaces with limited access to help, prompting specialists to suggest improved intervention plans to combat the issue more effectively.
