Moldova early childhood education shows high readiness but enrollment falls

A recent study by the Ministry of Education evaluated about 2,000 children from 120 early‑education institutions. Over 80% of those surveyed are ready for first grade, with 88% achieving strong mathematical skills, 87% good motor development, 85% solid socio‑emotional growth and 82% emerging literacy. Officials note that communication and writing abilities remain weaker and require additional focus.

Separate statistical data from the National Bureau of Statistics reveals that kindergarten enrollment in the Republic of Moldova has dropped sharply, falling from 149,700 children in 2019 to 122,900 in 2023 – an 18% decline and a loss of roughly 26,800 youngsters over six years.
