Moldova faces high electricity costs and low forest coverage

Republic of Moldova is placed 60th out of 145 countries in a GlobalPetrolPrices ranking of household electricity prices, with an average tariff of $0.177 per kWh for the 2023‑2026 period. By comparison Ukraine’s price is about $0.08/kWh, while Romania’s is higher at $0.212/kWh. The world’s most expensive electricity is in Bermuda at $0.466 per kWh.

According to World Bank data, only 12% of Moldova’s territory is forested, ranking the country 37th out of 41 European nations for forest coverage. This makes Moldova one of the European countries with the lowest share of forest land.
