Moldova faces labor shortages, increasing recruitment from Asia
Republic of Moldova is experiencing a significant labor deficit, with employers reporting approximately 15,000 vacant positions while the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) records only 6,000 unemployed individuals. To maintain operations, companies are increasingly recruiting workers from abroad, particularly from Asian countries.
Currently, over 5,600 foreign workers are officially registered in Moldova with residency rights. This trend has grown over the last three years, affecting sectors such as construction, industry, and hospitality (HoReCa). Recruitment agencies report that salaries in Moldova can be three to four times higher than those in countries like the Philippines, attracting workers seeking to support their families and save money.
In contrast, job seekers in Gorj, Romania, have access to 161 vacancies within the European Economic Area through the EURES network. These opportunities, primarily in Norway, Poland, and the Netherlands, cover sectors including construction, food processing, and agriculture.
