Moldova faces rising government debt servicing costs

Estimates regarding Moldova's public debt indicate rising servicing costs in the coming years. Projected expenditures for debt servicing are approximately 6.5 billion lei in 2026 and are expected to increase to 7.5 billion lei in 2027.

When adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP) using World Bank factors, these costs would equate to roughly 868 million USD in 2026 and approximately 1 billion USD in 2027. If included in comparative rankings, Moldova's debt servicing costs would place it between Iceland and Latvia.

Regarding debt per capita, although Moldova is not included in OECD-based rankings, estimates suggest a value of approximately 7,250 USD PPP per inhabitant. This figure is based on IMF projections of public and guaranteed debt at roughly 36.5% of GDP for 2025.
