Moldova faces wage inequality and minimum wage concerns

Economic disparities and wage concerns have been highlighted in Moldova. The National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova (CNSM) has stated that the current minimum wage of 6,300 lei should be increased to at least 7,300 lei. This increase is proposed to cover the minimum subsistence level for workers with children and to address imbalances in the state-funded pension system.

Polina Fisticanu of the CNSM noted that the current wage level prevents individuals from calculating a sufficient minimum pension, requiring the state to cover significant gaps from the budget.

Additionally, data from UN Women released on International Equal Pay Day indicates a significant gender wage gap in Moldova. In 2025, women earned, on average, 15.46% less than men. This disparity is noted to have long-term consequences, including reduced lifetime savings, lower economic security, and smaller pensions for women.
