Moldova's agricultural exports double corn output but stay far below historic levels
In the 2025‑2026 season Moldova exported 372,000 tonnes of corn, more than twice the previous season but only about 22 % of the 2021‑22 peak, while the average price fell 9 %. Wheat exports rose to 1.176 million tonnes, a 40 % increase year‑on‑year; three firms – RUSAGRO‑PRIM (controlled by billionaire Savelii Russu), AGRO‑NOVA PRIM and OROM‑IMEXPO – accounted for roughly 54 % of the volume.
Oilseed exports dropped to a seasonal low of 13,000 tonnes in June, pushing sunflower seed prices to a record 15,090 lei per tonne and rapeseed to 10,075 lei per tonne. Turkey remained the main market for sunflower seeds, while Central European buyers offered the highest prices.
A separate estimate puts the domestic wheat harvest at about 1.55 million tonnes, enough to meet internal consumption and seed needs. Producers still face high fuel and agro‑chemical costs, with limited local manufacturing of pesticides and diesel imports affecting profitability.
