Moldova honey production doubles following IFAD agricultural funding

Agricultural support through the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has significantly boosted honey production in the Republic of Moldova. Since the implementation of these programs, annual honey production has increased from approximately 2,500–2,700 tons in 2011–2012 to roughly 5,700–5,800 tons today.

Since 2017, 152 beneficiaries in the beekeeping sector have received funding, with 70% of these recipients being women and young people. These financial interventions have enabled the establishment of the country's first two large-scale enterprises dedicated to the collection, processing, and export of honey.

Funding provided through IFAD programs allows for various investments across the value chain, including the procurement of hives, bee colonies, and the modernization of processing and export capabilities.
