Moldova initiates legislative changes for cryptocurrency taxation
The Moldovan Ministry of Finance has initiated legislative amendments to regulate crypto-assets and establish taxation rules for cryptocurrency income. These changes aim to align national legislation with Law no. 180/2026 regarding the crypto-asset market, which is set to enter into force on March 17, 2027.
Currently, individuals are taxed at a 12% rate on capital gains, which is the positive difference between the purchase and sale price. For the year 2026, a fiscal facility remains in place where only 50% of the capital gain is considered taxable income. However, reports indicate that this 50% tax relief may be eliminated in 2027, meaning gains could be taxed in full.
Interested individuals, companies, and associations are invited to submit proposals regarding these legislative changes until November 5, 2026.
