Moldova investigates gasification companies for tax evasion

Authorities in Moldova have launched an investigation into a suspected tax evasion scheme involving several gasification companies. The scheme allegedly resulted in a loss of approximately four million lei to the state budget.

Investigators from the State Tax Service's General Anti-Fraud Directorate, led by PCCOCS prosecutors, believe the companies concealed income earned from gasification works and connecting consumers to natural gas networks. Between 2023 and 2024, the firms reportedly used distorted data regarding income and expenses in their accounting documents to reduce their tax obligations.

On August 17, 2026, law enforcement conducted searches at offices, residences, and in vehicles belonging to decision-makers across several organizations in central and southern Moldova. Authorities seized accounting documents, notes, and other materials to assist in the ongoing investigation.
