Moldova invests over 16 million lei in water network upgrades for Costești and Dămășcani

The Moldovan government is funding two water‑supply projects in the Rîșcani district, allocating more than 16.4 million lei to extend and modernise networks in the town of Costești and the village of Dămășcani. In Costești, 13.4 km of pipelines will be built, connecting 831 households (about 2,260 people), 15 public institutions and 50 businesses to a new system fed from the Prut River. In Dămășcani, a previous phase added 5.7 km of pipes, a 50 m³ water tower and a treatment station, bringing 145 households and several local entities onto the grid.

Interim mayor Elona Zuza said the old system, in use for over half a century, suffered losses of up to 60 percent. She added, “Odată cu punerea în funcţiune a noului apeduct, orașul va trece la o sursă sigură de apă și va putea fi conectat la sistemul regional de aprovizionare din râul Prut.” The upgrades aim to replace contaminated well water, reduce leaks, ensure steady pressure and secure supply for future generations.
