Moldova invites Tiraspol to resume bilateral '1+1' negotiations

Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Valeriu Chiveri, has issued a new invitation to Tiraspol to resume discussions under the '1+1' bilateral format. Chiveri stated that the '5+2' negotiation format is no longer functional in the current context, making direct communication between Chișinău and Tiraspol the primary channel for addressing the Transnistrian conflict.

While acknowledging that dialogue is complicated due to significant differences in position and increased animosity following the introduction of VAT on goods from the Transnistrian region, Chiveri emphasized the need for a pragmatic agenda. Proposed topics for future meetings include human rights, freedom of movement, education, economic issues, and public services.

The official noted that the reintegration process is already underway through practical measures and that the government aims to achieve concrete results for citizens without waiting for a final political settlement. Concerns were also raised regarding ongoing human rights violations in the region, including illegal deprivation of liberty and pressure on individuals.
