Eastern Europe faces energy strikes, earthquakes, and severe weather

Eastern Europe is facing multiple regional challenges involving weather, energy security, and seismic activity. In Ukraine, over 550,000 families lost power following a Russian strike involving 16 ballistic missiles and over 200 drones targeting energy infrastructure across 11 regions.

In Moldova, authorities have secured natural gas and electricity supplies for the 2026–2027 winter season, though officials urge citizens to practice energy conservation. The seismic activity in the region also remains a concern, as a 4.8 magnitude earthquake originating from the Vrancea zone was felt in Romania and Moldova.

Meteorological alerts are active across Romania, with the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) warning of torrential rains in Moldova and Dobrogea, strong winds reaching up to 90 km/h in mountain areas, and snow at altitudes above 2,000 meters. In Satu Mare, Romania, authorities have scheduled inter-institutional tactical exercises involving the Romanian Gendarmerie and the National Guard of Ukraine to test border security cooperation.
