Moldova man sentenced to 11 years for smuggling 14kg of drugs

A 64-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 years in a closed prison in Moldova for smuggling over 14 kilograms of various narcotics. The illegal substances were concealed inside a gas cylinder installed in his vehicle.

The incident occurred in November 2025 when the individual entered the country through the Sculeni border crossing. Following a police stop in Chișinău, authorities discovered packages containing five different types of substances: PVP (approximately 10 grams), mephedrone (nearly 3,000 grams), MDMA (approximately 850 grams), cocaine (approximately 150 grams), and ketamine (approximately 199 grams).

Prosecutors stated the operation was intended for the commercial sale of the drugs within the Chișinău municipality, specifically targeting the Botanica sector. Although the defendant claimed he was unaware of the drugs' presence and was merely transporting the car for sale, the court issued a definitive sentence.
