Moldova Ministry of Culture addresses Chisinau road renovation delays
Corneliu Cirimpei, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, has addressed the delays regarding the renovation project for the pavement on 31 August 1989 Street in Chisinau. He stated that the controversy surrounding the project is exaggerated, noting that legislation dictates that road repairs can only be carried out by the respective owners.
Despite the legal constraints, Cirimpei emphasized the cultural significance of this specific area, which houses the National Library, the Sulac Palace, the National Museum of Art, the National Museum of History, and the Licurici Theater. He confirmed that the project sketch submitted by the Chisinau City Hall was approved after meeting the standards required by the National Council of Historical Monuments (CNMI).
Similar delays were noted in the renovation of Stefan cel Mare Public Garden, which required three attempts to gain approval. The commencement of works on 31 August 1989 Street remains dependent on the municipality and available budget funds.
