Moldova opposition moves to suspend President Maia Sandu

Parliamentary opposition in Moldova has introduced a motion to suspend President Maia Sandu. The proposal, brought by Deputy Ion Chicu of the Development and Consolidation Party, seeks at least 34 signatures to register the motion, with support pledged by the Socialist Party, the Communist Party and the Democratic Party of Moldova. The ruling Party of Action and Solidarity has expressed unanimous backing of President Sandu and dismissed the initiative.

Legal experts say the constitutional mechanism for suspending a president is complex and the opposition lacks the necessary parliamentary majority, making the motion unlikely to advance. Andrei Curăraru of the WatchDog community described the effort as a “political PR stunt” with slim chances of success.
